In this video, our guest speaker Jim Clair speaks about the often neglected importance of reading books to improve your copywriting skills and how to read them the correct way.
He discusses the importance of reading widely beyond typical marketing texts and books that you might be familiar with, meaning that you can read literally ANY book as long as you do so correctly.
So that means both fiction and non-fiction books as well, to understand language nuances and develop a unique style.
For example: If you want to develop a more feminine writing style, you can read books (fiction or non-fiction) written by female authors.
Fiction books are ironically some of the best books you can read to improve your copywriting.
They help with visualization and coming up with analogies to get your point across to your audience a lot easier.
That being said, there’s nothing wrong with reading typical marketing books, they’re good but they’re usually formulaic.
Meaning you’ll be using very generic and salesy language instead of fresh language.
You have to see the framework itself and how it’s used to write stories.
Additional discussions: tips on maintaining good grammar, navigating niche markets, and the effect of AI in copywriting. The episode concludes with a Q&A with Jim answering the questions of our students.
